I have a really strange problem here.
I am trying to connect to the medievia.com:4000 mud. Ok, i can do that and i can go on until... well look for yourself:

Would you like a tutorial that'll teach you some of the fundamentals of playing Medievia (y/n)?n

Medievia has full ANSI color capability. (Use COLOR command in the game)
Do you have ANSI COLOR on and want to see our color Title(y/n)? n

... and that's it, nothing happens. zMUD thinks i am still connected, but nothing comes. if i type something, i see the echo, but also nothing happens.
while at this stage, i tried to ping it from the edit menu in the charracter window but zMUD could not reach it. the only thing i can do, is to close the connection. the thing, what's strange about it is, that, when i connected the first time, i came a bit further until it froze. i tried other mud-clients and even telnet, but still, nothing happens.

i live in europe/austria, useing DSL. while zMUD has it's usual access fiolations once in a while, something like that never happened before.
did anyone ever experieced something simmilar?

thx for any help

If other MUD clients and telnet have the same problem, then we can safely assume the problem is not with zMUD, no? the problem might be somewhere else, like with the MUD, the connection in between you and the MUD, maybe even Windows.

I can safely rule out the MUD itself, just double checked the creation section with a couple new chars. I'm afraid to say I think it may be a windoze problem. Hrm....are all your drivers up to date?

i don't have a problem with any other mud. and allthought, i don't think, that it is a zMUD problem, i am asking you guys here too, because you are a nice bunch of people :)

i am on a PII 350 with 128MB ram running on windoze98 with DSL. i am useing a ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall (which doesn't seem to be the problem at all, because i tried it with the firewall turned off too).

I just thought, that someone might have had a simmilar experience to mine.

what makes this login problem so strange, is that i can log in, proceed normaly up to a certain point and then it just stops. i contacted the folks from medievia mud allready and they don't know either.

so i thought i ask the experienced mudders, if anyone ever had such probs too.
so please forgive me the off topic(if it is)

Hrm, I'll foward it to the coders there. As one of Medievias long term zMUD users I'm stumped....

Edited:
Just tried again with 2 new characters, which makes 8 tests overall, testing both ANSI color on and ANSI color off, both started up perfectly. The only thing I can think of at this stage is that you are getting a really bad link to medievia itself which is being overwhelmed by the small amount of data you get sent, andI do mean small amount of data. As for not being able to ping Medievia, no-one can. The best you can do is ping the server before Med, it's a measure that had to be taken after som little brats tried to ping flood the game itself.

If it's not your link, I can only assume that there may have been a problem with the IP range your ISP uses. Though that is normally stopped right away, before you even get asked to input a name.

Frankly I'm stumped as are the Gods of Medievia, of which I am one. I replied to your initial email.

I have actually noticed this happen several times on different muds over the years. I don't know what causes it, but since it only happened at the end of chargen I never really bothered with it. Can't really offer up any help other than 'yes, I've noticed this behavior on other muds before'.

(FWIW I play mostly diku/smaug muds.)

well, it seems, that it really is something between ISPs.
and guess what, noone feels responsible for the problems...

but the sad thing is, that even on the higher level support, of a big and "professional" ISP, nobody really knows somthing about telnet clients.
most people i know, that roam the internet in a more casual manner are more professional then the average guy from a support hot line.
