String List

I use a string list to #GAG certain things in my MUD. However, some of the global lines use special characters.

<Newbie>

But, when you add that to the string list it causes everything listed to now not work on top of gagging the <Newbie> itself. Is there a way to add special characters onto the list or do you always need to make a separate trigger for those?
