Copying sessions from one install to another

New purchaser part two, I bought zmud many moons ago, falling back into mudding.

I've got it installed on my machine, I went to re-install it (move install location) and copied out my 4 character files.

I put them back in the folder, but it keeps generating the defaults.

How do I get a "new" install to scan the folder for existing users? Import keeps asking for a zmud.exe which I do not have.

And I'm sorry if this is searchable, I didn't know the right combination of keywords, and couldn't find the answer, but at least I did try.

You aren't very clear on what you have and what you are doing. You say you had Zmud. Then you say you have "it" installed on your machine and want to re-install "it". By "it", do you mean Cmud? Does this mean that you have previously successfully installed Cmud? Are your character files in Cmud format, or Zmud format? You say you have copied over the character files. Did you also copy over your other files, such as the list of sessions and default files? When you start up Cmud, does it list your sessions, the ones you are trying to get at? How are you trying to "import" these sessions?

What operating system are you running on? What pathname were your old session files under? What pathname are they under now?

If you already had Cmud successfully installed, and the sessions you are trying to open were already Cmud files, then you do not need to "import" anything. All you need to do is edit the session information to make sure it is looking for the files in the right place. But you'll have to answer the above questions before I can tell if that's what you are really trying to do.

Alright, sorry if I wasn't clear, wrote that request before the required amount of coffee to make my brain function on an optimal level.

I had cmud installed pointing to a program files dir and it chose the user folder at the time to store the user data (c:\users\revfeuerfrei\profiles\) or something like that, you get the idea. I copied out my 4 character folders, and uninstalled the software, then reinstalled it to z:\mud.

It is now installed in that folder, during install I told it to save profiles in the same folder (z:\mud\)

Before I'd uninstalled it, I nabbed my 4 character folders, and put them in a folder on my drive.

Post install, I put the folders in the z:\mud with my character names in them.

I don't see them show up as a session option, and it keeps populating the default sessions even after I delete them.

Os is Win 7 pro x86

Okay. I think you have two problems here. First is that you may not have copied over the list of sessions, and perhaps some other important files. These files reside in the general Cmud user data folder, the folder within which the specific session folders reside. I'm at work now, and can't recall offhand the name of this file, but it will end in ".db". It will not hurt to copy all .db files from the old user data folder to the new one.

If you had secondary packages in addition to the session packages, they were probably within a folder named "packages". This would also need to be moved to the new location.

If you have all the files in the right place, you should see your sessions listed when you start up Cmud. Then you have to solve the second problem--the database listing those sessions probably still points to the old locations for the session folders. For each session, you need to manually edit the pathnames. Single click one of the sessions to select it, then click Edit on the left side of the window. Edit the path for every file and folder listed in the session information. Do this for each session you have moved.
