connection problem

ZMUD connects fine when I'm at home, but when I'm at school it won't connect to any MUD I try. Is there a way around this?

Are you able to connect to these MUDs via telnet? Do you have some sort of firewall at the school? It's likely the network configuration and security at your school is preventing you from connecting.

yeah, I can connect via telnet. It's only through zmud or other mud programs that the connection won't work.

What version of zMUD is it? How do you register & install the application on a public computer?

it's the latest version of ZMUD, and it's not on a public computer it's on my laptop. All other programs that use the internet work, it's just mud programs that wont work for some reason

More than likely the port is being blocked by your schools firewall.

Can you connect to a non-MUD with zMUD? For example your school's UNIX account? Have you tried with CMUD? Have you tried this with the firewall turned off? What OS are you using? What firewall? Is this a new problem, ie were you able to connect at school before?

Normally schools don't block port 23 (telnet) but do block other ports (such as higher end ports that MUDs use, MSN, Yahoo messenger, etc)

I dont know how to go about connecting to the school's unix account. I tried CMUD but the program was giving me issues (keys on the keyboard, when pressed, give different letters than they are supposed to). MSN, yahoo messenger, etc all work fine.
