Creating a zonelink on the up/down axis. |
Hi,
I'm trying to create a zone link in the mapper that will change the zone when I move down in a particular room. I can create a zonelink on the regular edges of the room (NSEW,
NW, SW, SE) but cannot figure out how to create it on the Down or Up directions.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Best bet would be to right click the exit (if you can) or the room (and choose Properties->Exits Tab). No matter which, the right-click menu should give you an option to relink the link, which will allow you to drag it to whichever room you want. You can also do this by setting the room number for the exit to the room you wish to move to. If it is in another zone, it automatically does it.
EDIT: After thinking a bit more, more than likely you'll want the destination to have an opposite exit back to the source, so the second method is better. Set the room number of the link to the destination, make sure you have the directional settings set, then switch over to the destination room and set the return link to the source room. |

Usually what I do is to first create a normal room and link. Then in the Room Properties Exit tab, select the link and change the directions to Up/Down by just clicking on the buttons on the right side that show the exit directions. Then go back to the map, select the room, and use the Edit/Move to Zone menu command to move the new room to another zone.

Sorry to necro this ancient thread but I was hoping to get some advice on this topic.
On aardwolf it's a fairly common thing to have multiple exits all spit out into the same room (for example, the newbie academy, my clan hall, and a special 'hotel' area all have a Down exit that goes to the main recall room)
Since I already have the city and the recall room mapped I'm wondering how to do the zone link on the up/down axis properly since up/down doesn't seem to qualify as an edge.
Zugg suggested just create a new room and move that to the proper zone but what do I do when the room in the proper zone is already created?
Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated :) |

All you need to do is set the destination room for the rooms you want to go down from to the recall room. A room can take multiple entries from one direction on the map. I'm assuming that even though all these rooms go down to the recall room, that you can't return that way, so you can set the one-way attribute in the source room.

You don't even need to use the spreadsheet view, really. With the exits tab of a room's preferences open, you can set the destination of the selected room with the # button, if you know its number. You can also press the line button to draw a link to the room - that should work across zones - and then change the destination direction of the room to up.
