CMUDPro - Disable Command Line Entirely |
In the past I have used terra term, putty or other SSH clients (from windows hosts) when performing system level activities on remote hosts that require telnet/ssh access. For mudding, I go back with zMud to the 18th Century. Recently, I've purchased CMudPro hoping to have one client framework where I can work the front end and back end of my hobby systems.
Unfortunately, I'm frustrated by the seperate command line when working directly on the system. Part of this could be "adjusting" to a new way of working but I'm not inclined or motivated to adjust my expectations to match the product for this single activity. I would like to entertain the notion of using this professionally as well and perhaps introducing it to some of my peers to use in the lab; however, the seperate command line "feature" is a barrier to socializing adoption.
Is it possible to simply turn off (entirely) the command line "frame" or "section" or hide it and interact directly with the screen? Perhaps this is a character mode vs line mode issue? I'm not sure if I'm even articulating the need sufficiently.
Example where this is important: $ more example.file
<lines of text...
bottom of page>
[single key entry interacts with the pager]
With the command line interface in the way...Pressing <return> to advance one line simply isn't an option and can be complicated if auto-clear is not turned on.
With the command line interface in the way...I have to hit <space;return> to page--doubling my interaction requirement!
I don't know about your peer group but the UNIX hacks I work with get snotty about keyboard/typing economy. Doubling the interaction requirement (even if it is only a single keystroke) is unacceptable.
Is the option to disable the command line even available? I've tried pecking through the options, hunting/searching the forums...to no avail. Perhaps, I'm too close to the problem, impatient, or stubborn and have overlooked it...
Thoughts?
Thanks,

You can remove the command line by clicking on the appropriate window in the settings editor and de-selecting the option in the properties panel.

Outstanding! Thank you. I, indeed, was looking in the wrong place. If it were a snake, I'd be bitten. :)

As a follow-up. After de-selecting the command line option, it is then helpful to turn on "character mode" in the Sesssion->Emulation section of Preferences.

If you were using a strict TELNET protocol then this feature should be turned on, otherwise line mode is fine.
