Editing in XML

Okay so this is going to sound stupid but when I'm viewing the XML for a class and I try to paste in:
Code:
<trigger type="Telnet" param="200" priority="60" prompt="true" id="6">
  <pattern>Room.Brief%s(*)</pattern>
  <value>#var Room_Name {%1}</value>
</trigger>
<trigger type="Telnet" param="200" priority="60" prompt="true" id="7">
  <pattern>Room.Exits%s(*)</pattern>
  <value>#var Room_Exits {%1}</value>
</trigger>

and then press the save button all the code I just pasted disappears and nothing changes.

Why, and how do I fix it?

Yes - the XML disappears if the XML was bad in whatever way. I think it'd be nice if there were some sort of "Invalid XML" message, but it'd be a low priority anyway.
