I always use the syntax "#var variable newvalue" in my scripting anyways.

So, that works! I was after more of a #noscript type command that would just send the text without processing it ...

How do I stop zMUD from auto-processing a line? For instance, if I do "chat =)" it forms a variable called chat with no value. Is there an expression to stop it from doin that?

Simple answer - upgrade!

The freeware version of ZMud is an old, buggy copy. The latest releases have the most bug fixes and the most stable coding.

Okay, I upgraded to the latest beta version (with a backup, of course) and it seems to be holding the labels now. So, I guess it was a known bug

Well, most of the information I've found says that it will work under Wine. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be using Wine.

I plan to be using Mandrake Linux and the X Windowing System.

The problem with ZoneAlarm is, if there's no activity from the user (mouse or keyboard) it activates the lock. So, sending something to the MUD won't help at all. You'll need to edit your ZoneAlarm ...
