I resolved the situation ... though the solution was not quite so elegant. I ended up doing a registry restore (run scanreg /restore)and loaded a registry that was saved prior to the event.

Searched through faq's and didnt see any thing that was directly related.
Zmud refuses to start and all I receive is "Zmud has caused an error in <unknown>" "Zmud will now close" .... no spl ... |
