Although MakeVar isn't a clear and right way still, nevertheless it's much better then ProcessCommand. And about 2'nd problem solution - great! Viva la Perl! :)

I've just found a solution. The exact steps you have to do in my case are:

1) copy chardb.mdb to some temporary directory
2) delete all chardb.* files
3) run ZMUD 6.61, press "OK" ...
